Or, if you think the main rulebook is scary, you should see the entire D&D collection. There are probably somewhere in the region of 100 books all told. Most of them completely unnecessary since really you only need 3 books to run a D&D game, each of them about the same size as the player's handbook.

I saw a picture of the complete rule book/guide for one before, and that scared me :D/>

It's actually not that big a deal. The core rulebook is only about 300 pages, and of those only about 10 pages detail the rules, the rest is all expounding on or providing for them. That's pretty standard for all RPGs. If you plan to run a game you'll want a full understanding of the core book and probably some supplemental books, but if you're just getting started you can usually get away with just an understanding of the basic rules (how dice work, character sheet, and the class you plan to play). After your first few sessions in a system things should start coming together.

Also, if you work in IT or as a programmer you probably work with people who play. We just don't run around advertising it.

Never played any until this year, though I always wanted to, but a few months ago I joined a group on Roll20 for a pathfinder campaign. It's really good site, and I've enjoyed it quite a bit. Much to my relief, I found the sorcerer class. With what little I used to know about the game, I didn't know there was an alternate mage class outside of your druids and clerics using magic and things like that. Favoring mages or characters, that use some sort of magic at least, in rpgs, I'd always dreaded the lack of flexibility that came with preparing spells ahead of time.

We should have a private did forum for this, visible to only those involved, and we could run our own games. We take turns posting and shit, someone could be DM and we could use a dice app for rolls or something. That'd be fun, ja?

Also, I second this idea.

Dang, the Punctuation troll hits again. It Should have been "I am currently working on my on game. I haven't found a group in our area to game with."
I have 10 years of research on it, and just now figured out I could use Adobe to create in Electronic Format, go figure, I could have been published a long time ago.

If you're going to troll as a grammar nazi, the least you could do is get it right.
  • You've ended a sentence with a preposition.
  • You didn't allow adequate spacing between your paragraphs.
  • You failed to double space after periods.

Shall I continue??

Since I am Easily Confused. Who was this toward?
Personally, I am usually decent at grammar checks, but when I type I find that I read into my paragraphs the grammar that should be there.

It was directed at you, dear. I was simply, albeit snarkily, pointing out that for one so convinced of their top-notch grammar skills when critiquing the posts of others, the grammar is severely lacking in your own.

Pot, meet Kettle.
Kettle, Pot.

@b9 - Though it is not obvious - I believe alapee is critiquing his own post.
