Sun MicroSystems Inc. will start selling its 64 bit, x86 based servers with Windows Server OS pre-installed, and will work together in getting the Windows Server OS to work on SunFire hardware, and to make Sun's Solaris Unix OS fully managable under Microsofts new System Center Virtual Machine Manager software.
"Management interoperability is part of our management strategy," said Andrew Lees, corporate vice president for the server and tools marketing and solutions group at Microsoft

Well, they are constantly bouncing between kissing up and going to end of world battles.
The current love period started a bit earlier with some crosslicensing (office patents and whatever so star office could deal with ms formats, and there was something in return), so it is not a complete surprise, but not a small one anyway.
Btw they were best buddies back in the times also when MS made a JVM implementation, but it didn't last long (and the MS VM 'surprisingly' went offroad just to derail Java, but it is history)
