FTP username/password captured

Posted 19 October 2013 - 02:28 PM

Hi everyone,

I'm using FTP in my application for checking app version, and for uploading. Now i thinking this is a bad choice because i and everyone else can "catch" my username/password for FTP with Wireshark, does maybe anybody know how can i change and fix that i would appreciate that?

Wireshark capture

My app verision download code:

          client.Credentials = New Net.NetworkCredential("username", "password")
                version6.Text = client.DownloadString("ftp://location/public_html/software/version.txt")

Thank you!

Though there aren't any free.

Just use a txt in something like dropbox for this, then check the current app version against the content of the txt, like "1.0.0.1", no need to authenticate anything, gosh.
