CSS for a Wordpress Site not fully working?

Posted 24 October 2013 - 05:29 PM

So I'm working on a Wordpress class at my local community college and admittedly I have some basic understanding of HTML & CSS prior to this class, enough to be able to get into trouble when editing code not enough to code from scratch.

MY PROBLEM is that while creating a child theme I'm unable to reach desired results with the child theme's css. My goal is to get a:link to be color color: #c46c98; though with my CSS as shown below the links stay blue. The theme is Responsive.

Is it possible I'm not overwriting the css of the parent theme, even though I've overwritten the effects of .entry-title and h3 & h4, just not for the a:links?

My Site

Example Site to be End Result
http://cas181.com/yarnstore5a/blog/

Research:

Result: My css is already linking as I've been able to successfully link for the titles for blog posts

http://wordpress.org...color?replies=7

Result: Making post to the wordpress theme forum for assistance, just wanting to cover my bases here that I'm not missing something stupid.

Result: I tried changing the selector from a:link to a and back again without result. Cleared browser cache for chrome and mozilla (preference is against using IE) and tried coding again. No change.

/*
Theme Name: Custom Theme for YarnStore site
Description: This is a CHILD THEME using the Responsive theme.
Author: William Leininger
Template: responsive

*/

@import url("../responsive/style.css");
@import url(http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Lily+Script+One);

.entry-title, .entry-title a:link, .entry-title a:visited   {
     color: #c46c98;
     font-size: 24px;
     font-family: 'Lily Script One', cursive;

}

.entry-title a:hover {
     text-decoration: underline;
}

a:link	  {
     color: #c46c98;
}

a:link {
   color:inherit;
}

h3	{
     font-size: 20px;
     line-height: 1.5em;
     font-weight: bold;
}

h4	{
     font-size: 14px;
}

The base wp theme's css sometimes overrides child theme's css. So to show the child theme's css is more important you use the !important tag at the end of the css line. For example:
a:link{
     color: #c46c98!important;
}

Hope that's what you were looking for and I didn't misunderstand the post.
