Highlight code without numbers

Posted 12 November 2013 - 11:56 PM

For probably the majority of questions found on this site, the helpers only need to highlight a few lines of code (not all of it) to copy to their own post for commenting. However, you always select line numbers with that, which means that you have to delete them, and reformat the code.

If we could just copy code without numbers, and formatting intact, commenting on snippets of code would be easier.

Is it possible we can do this? (if supported)

Edit: Forgot that there was a view source option, I suppose that is sufficient, though I would still prefer to copy directly from the code box.

To be honest, I'd like that too. The later versions of the syntax highlighting plugin we use actually lets you do that, but I believe it didn't play nice with the version of the forum software we had. So it's on the list, along with everything else.

We actually switched over to the updated version for a while, but it didn't play nicely with IE and the actually copying broke sometimes, so we had to move back to the old version.

I find it a pain also, I usually just use the copy button and erase what is not needed.

You could always use the icons at the top of the code blocks to open the code in a pop out window. This doesn't include the line numbers.

The icons don't always show up for me but it is a huge time saver when you are trying to grab gobs of code from someones project to see what exactly they are referring to.

Another good option is to use the quote-and-reply button, then edit out the bits you don't want. This is usually the way I do it.

They only show up when the vertical scrollbar is at the top of the code window and your mouse is hovering the window.

If the bar scrolls down even a line, the icons scroll up with it.
