How to load and play external video files

Posted 20 November 2013 - 03:10 PM

Hi,
New here.

I need to play external video files in Flash (AS2). What needs to be done is
that either the video plays the full 10 sec, 5 sec or 3 sec depending on what the user
has done. Also have to have it randomly pick a video file from them ones in the folder.

Since I don't need any controls I'm guessing I would need to use the MediaDisplay component ?
But how do I set this up to do this ? Also how can I have it play just 5 sec or 3 sec of a video file ?

Never used the mediadisplay before.

Appreciate the help.

Thanks.

Never mind. Found something that will work for now. At least part of it.

Thanks anyway.

I don't have the random pick thing yet and only plays one flv but its something that will work for the people I'm doing this for, at least for a demo anyway.

I added the FLVPlayback component to stage and gave it a name of FLVPlayer

//FLVPlayer.autoPlay = false; // want it to auto play true/false
FLVPlayer.contentPath = "flv/water.flv"; // the path to flv
FLVPlayer.seek(0); //where you want it to start
FLVPlayer.play();
