My boss used that as a way to embarrass the team the manages our VMs. On my home machine, which is just a middle of the road box circa 2011 (not super high end gaming box), I could get a VirtualBox VM hosting SharePoint+SQL Server+VS2012 running smoothly with just 2 CPU's and 4GB of RAM, while the VMs provided by the other team has 2 faster CPUs and 8 GB of RAM, but keeps slowing down and stalling. He also used it as a leverage point to get on the budget developer class laptops (actually they are gaming class laptops but HP labels them as high end laptops because "gaming machines" would probably cause red flags in most business budget reviews) for the entire team which will let us host our own VMs instead of depending on the other team.
