The difference here is that you pretty much have to be trying to write horrible code. While the case sensitive examples can be a result of an honest mistake or a lazy rush to get code out, I think it is more unlikely for a person to resort to 1337 when the preferred identifier has already been claimed. Certainly, case insensitivity doesn't solve all problems, but it solves some of the more common ones without introducing any major detriment, so I think that makes it preferable.

Sorry, I'm afraid I see them as the same thing. They are both code typos. They are both something that shouldn't survive more than a compile or two for a competent programmer.

Typo tolerance for sloppy programmers just doesn't sound like a selling point. If anything, it's a case against.

I was about to write that I want typo tolerance in my command line/console/interactive inputs... Then I realized that I really don't. I don't want the command line guessing that I want to reformat my hard drive.
