Cripes I felt indulgent when I spent $600 on 5 new outfits, including 3 ties, a pair of shoes, and a new coat. O.O

Uhh... yeah. I'm polar opposite of that. I buy my tennis shoes at second hand stores because I want a good brand that will last me a while, but I won't pay more than $20 for them. And I don't buy Levis unless they're on clearance or at a thrift store because they're too expensive.

It's not that I can't afford a new pair of Levis. I just can't bring myself to spend that kind of money on a pair of jeans when somebody else already bought them, wore them twice, and tossed them in a donation barrel... and I can go in the shop buy them for $3. I'm a tight wad.

My kids HATE back-to-school shopping with me, but I can't justify fighting mall crowds, dealing with the dark bleak hipness of the store and the blaring sucky music to spend $30 on a t-shirt with "Hollister" across the front of it when I can get the same damn thing for $1.50 at a thrift shop.

[edit]
I have SERIOUS issues at Christmas time... warring inner demons... one saying buy everything used to save money, the other saying suck it up and buy the kids something brand new for once in their damned lives. Skinflint can be an awful affliction.

If I had the money I'd be wearing Versace, Prada, Fendi, etc. and I wouldn't think twice about it.

You only need 1 tie, unless you plan on a exit via the window ;). In which case, make sure the ties aren't shorter than you think they are :wheelchair:

Today has been dragging like crazy only 30 mins left. I am taking tomorrow since my wife is home sick with one of my kids today. Hoping I can get a lot of work done on my app and get this latest update out.

Hear, hear - me, too. A long time ago I realized that my life got a lot better when I asked myself "do I really want this?". Usually the answer was "no" - so that was money in my pocket and less crap to cart around. The exception is books. I have a hell of a time not buying a book.

I'll sometimes hop on amazon and go on a used book bender and end up with 20 books at 50-$2 each. I'll read every last one of them, but I'll also feel guilty for spending the money.

See, I would feel no shame there, nor neither no guilt. None at all.

I managed to swing the entire Wheel of Time series (at the time I purchased it - so books 1-11) for $5+10s&h on eBay.

I tend to do the same thing. "Do I really want/need this?" If not, I don't have it. This leaves me with a very small amount of very cool possessions. The wardrobe was necessary for the job. Prior to buying it I owned exactly 1 button down shirt and 1 tie. Business professional dress, so I don't have the option of my extensive work polo collection.

My frivolity is games. I'll blow $200 on a hotel room, $60 on gas each way, to go play games with people 2-3 times a year. Drive out to Pittsburgh, or Columbus, or DC, or Springfield IL, or wherever. And lots of booze, too, usually.
