Coursera Android Course

Posted 16 December 2013 - 09:34 PM

Anyone looking to learn Android, University of Maryland is putting on a Programming Mobile Applications for Android Handheld Systems Course on Coursera. I am Android self-taught so I am gonna do it to see if I missed anything and just to generally test my knowledge. Has anyone done this one before? Couldn't tell if they even offered it in the past.

I joined as well.

How do you think that compares to this one?

It seems that the Coursera class is more focused towards programming but the edX is more focused on the mobile experience. However, it seems that the mobile experience class would much more rewarding as it has more content and the recommended time is twice the Coursera class. It's also project-based vs listen to lecture and do a lab.

It is hard to know which class will be better or worse than another. Just pick the one that appeals to you the most or do both. The couresa course is part of multi-class and I am pretty sure one of the later classes focuses more on design and mobile experience.

I've got this on watch for future courses along with the Game programming one. I have signed up for both Algorithms I and II though starting January 31st.

It seems to me that we do get a fair amount of people that use Coursera. I wonder if it'd be enough to warrant it's own forum.

I think a new forum could be great. It would spread the word about these types of classes and we could have a sort of off-class discussion.

I'm in Analysis of Algorithms and Algorithms, I. I figure 3 classes at once is enough work.

are you currently in the Algorithms I class, or signed up for the January 31st one? I've also got Analysis of Algorithms on watch as I really only want to do one class at a time.

January 31st one. Did you see Algorithms II is in March?

I figure it's still cold out so I can handle 3 classes.

Yep, I'm planning on continuing into II once I know if i'm going to pass I. Also I brought up a forum/sub forum with an admin and was advised that at this time we don't have enough to warrant it, but we can start to move these threads to the Student Campus.

I got my Course Certificate from this course. I ended paying the $49 and getting the verified and the "with distinction" extra for completing the course project. The next course in the series starts a couple weeks. Is anyone moving on to the next course. I probably am going to pay another $49 and keep going until the end. The next course looks to be a little more challenging and I hope that it is.
