Tattoo Idea, Daughters' Birthdates. Help please. Creativity.

Posted 23 December 2013 - 08:53 PM

Hello, I understand this site is for coding help. I saw many good reviews. So I figured I'd ask for help here. I am planning to get a C++ Tattoo. The basis of the tattoo would be to output my daughters birthdays. Like "If Riley output 09/03/2010 else output Kaylee 05/11/2012. As I am not a coder and just know, appreciate the fundamentals of it I cannot provide anything. But if anyone could help with coding it would be very appreciative. Feel free to be creative, having many versions with the same output would be great! Thank you so much!

A couple questions come to mind:

1. Why would you want a tattoo written in a programming language when you yourself aren't a coder?

2. Why would you broadcast your children's full names and birthdates on a public internet forum?

The structure of life fascinates me. The past, present, future. How things operate accordingly because of their beginnings. Such as history, being the building blocks for today's society. If you look at it as an analogy. Code-output. Birthday-present.

Also, you are completely correct. I will be editing the post if possible.

tattoo your own body with your own ideas instead of asking strangers on the internet (and in this case, it's REALLY strangers since it was your first post).

this reminds me of the guy who starts a thread about tattoo suggestions and gets like 3 pages of suggestions, and then settles for a tribal.

get a tribal tattoo.

aint no one stranger on the internets than supersloth

that's not actually true but anyway...

Why C++ if you're not a coder? I'm with everyone else on the 'make it your idea' response. Shouldn't a tattoo about your daughters be about them? And much like japanese, you could wind up with something completely wrong for what you want. Tattoos should be apropos and meaningful to some degree. Personal. Don't be this guy

Just put your daughter's names in a heart shape:

  • You are not a coder
  • You wouldn't be able to explain, or understand, it clearly
  • It is a very small joke

Besides, it would take a number of lines of code to format the dates correctly ;)

You could do it in VB.Net with one line, it just might take your entire arm.

If(daughter1, Console.WriteLine("{0:MM-dd-yyyy}", daughter1Date), If(daughter2, Console.WriteLine("{0:MM-dd-yyyy}", daughter2Date), If(IsSmart, Console.WriteLine("Don't get this tattoo"), Console.WriteLine("Got this tattoo"))))

How many American's do you see with Asian tattoos, knowing full & well they don't understand the language. Seems the same thing to me.

Sheldon: Why do you have the Chinese character for "soup" tattooed on your right buttock?
Penny: It's not "soup," it's "courage."

POPULAR

I heard a beautiful and probably apocryphal story about a guy who had more money than sense and wanted to get tattooed. Apparently this fellow went to one of the most famous and well-regarded tattoo artists he could find and managed to book a slot with him. And apparently, he managed to offend this guy's sensibilities - as I heard the story, it was because the artist felt the client was not taking the artist seriously, and treating him as a sort of "tattoo machine". So the artist tried to tell the guy, look, I don't think this is going to work, I'm going to give you a refund and we'll forget the whole thing, but the guy got uppity and insisted that he had booked a spot and he had a right to get his tattoo.

Okay, says the artist, you'll have it. So he took the guy's design and his ideas and he carefully inked this design onto the fellow's skin, with one addition: a subtle, but unmistakable penis worked into the center of the image.

And when the guy saw this, he howled and railed, but the artist said, look, you wanted a tattoo from me, and you've got it. And then he spread the word to the artists he knew - if you see this guy, he's a dick, so put a dick into any work you do for him.

And the guy then worked his way down some list of the best tattoo artists in the world and each and every one of them gave him a beautifully made tattoo, featuring a penis.

As I say, this probably never actually happened, but it's a good story to consider: if you're going to get a tattoo, you're engaging in a work of creative art in collaboration with someone who takes this very seriously. You really ought to take it very seriously as well, or things might go other than the way you want them to.
