Findstr in Windows command line

Posted 31 December 2013 - 07:29 PM

Is there a command to search all the contents of files within a directories and all sub directories. I know that findstr can search a file and a given list of files. Because if there isn't I want to write one that can.

I do believe there is but I'm not really familiar with it. That being said Powershell can do this very easily.

One file:

Type [path:\item.ext] | Select-String [stringyouarelookingfor]

MultipleItems

Get-ChildItem -filter *.ext | Select-String [Stringyouarelookingfor]
