Started freelancing. How's my website look?

Posted 06 January 2014 - 11:48 AM

Hey! I've decided to hit the ground running and start my freelancing career. After many drafts and revisions, I finally have a company page that I really like. What do you guys think?

Thanks!

You have a number of HTML errors:

http://validator.w3.....com/index.html

However, most of them will probably disappear when you remove that large comment at the top. The DOCTYPE needs to be the very first line.

You should validate your css as well, this is linked in my signature below. A lot of the reported errors are not actually errors though, mostly vendor specific details, or similar, that the validator cannot recognise.

The site is quite neat but IMO a little bland, and those grey blocks are quite large considering their content.

Not bad, but I am not overly enthused about the whole design.

First - I am not a fan of the font.

The series of gray bars is.. ugh.. just bland and boring looking.

"With the internet being such a vast resource, it's amazing that some businesses still do not have an internet presence. " this just reads like an insult to anyone who doesn't have a website.. "Hey st00pid! Why u no haz website?"...

The social media.. I would figure those would be smaller icons at the top.. you know.. prominent.

It's hard to tell the links in there..

I am not sure why you have all the squares there.. why not make three pages with the sections of information? It's less clutter and less scrolling.

Not to mention it would try and codify what the page is about.. about you getting someone to buy a website design from you.. so the whole 'future' goals' are less important than pushing the original line..

For a business site it seems to be lacking massive amount of pertinent detail.. what's involved.. packages.. prices.. etc.

I am unclear why the company's blog goes to 'lifeunhacked'.

The site needs more color.

Resizing the page can break where I see the third boxes in their sections..

Over all not a fan of the design or content presentation, but it has potential.

Oh, and your facebook link says 'facebok'.

The coderdojo page is not anywhere near ready to be seen yet. The non-profit just started so waiting on many factors. Probably should have left that out for now.

Bland seems to be a response from everyone, so I'll work on that.

I appreciate all the input! Harsh critics are the best, especially seeing as I'm a baby developer still. :look: Back to the drawing board!

Took out that comment at the top. Validated HTML and CSS. Both pass. So I've got that going for me at least.

From a professional standpoint, I don't know that I would include my personal instagram on the website. If you had a professional instagram where you shared photos related to the Coder Dojo, you with clients, etc., I think that's different. Just my two cents.

Some sites can afford to be a little bit bland, but if you are promoting web-design services then it needs to be.. professional, slick ;), especially when adopting terms like "strong internet presence".

BTW Your "Back to top" link at the bottom reloads the page. You can just use href="#".

Good luck!

Follow up. Redesigned. Check it.

I haven't changed the content or wording very much. But the design I feel is much much better. Not mobile optimized yet. Doing that tomorrow, along with content editing.

Better..

I still dislike that font.
I am still not a fan of the washed out/gray look. That big ol' honking gray bar at the top isn't doing you any favors. Perhaps peek at what other folk have done:

http://speckyboy.com...-color-schemes/
http://psd.fanextra....-color-schemes/

The 'what I do', 'portfolio', etc at the top do not work.
Your footer is missing a copyright.

As for your images.. I would hope you have the permission to use it, right? I mean it would look less than stellar if, say, that was just ripped from another person's content and a client noticed.

*cough*here, Here, there */cough*

I know you said you didn't change the content much, but I want to reiterate I am not a fan.. Mostly for the reasons I mentioned in my last post, but now I am looking at this "what I do" bit.. that should be "what I can do for you". Less *me* [read: you] centered, and more customer centered.
