Looking for insightful honest feedback DRBR.CO.UK

Posted 19 January 2014 - 01:00 PM

Hello,
I started working on my personal website a few days ago and would like some feedback on my product so far.

I'm aware of the issues with resolution and browsers will fix in the upcoming days with media-queries and a fix for VW VH font scaling in Chrome.

The feedback I'm looking for is on the overall look and feel for the site:

Any constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated.

Pretty good start. I think I would have made the opening picture look more like a road than some clearing in the forest. I am also not sure the serif font types are working in this particular situation. Serif fonts never go that well on screens so it looks a bit odd to me. The little pops of teal are cool but I feel it could use a little more color since the black and white is a bit overwhelming.

I am also not really digging the centered text and I am still trying to figure out why you are using asterisks in the text on the right. I thought maybe some foot note, but I don't see one.

Other than that, good start. :)

Yeah I like it,

It has ambience it is however rather sparse,

I would like to see more of websites you have designed.

I agree with the road instead of the forest thing that Martyr2 mentioned.

I would like to contact you, ooh where is your email button oops I think I wont bother

trying to hunt you down.

The JS menu doesnt work for me in f.fox until I scroll down a bit then it works

possible bug there.....

but I do like the overall feel of it, its very nice.

Snoopy.

Yeah I was a little sceptical about the welcome image. I'll have a look on Flikr for some more open ones.
I will also look into some more typography, I do need a chunky sans-serif on the welcome for readability and perhaps a slender serif for the about me section. I've been reading some interesting articles on 2014 trends and slender typefaces look very nice especially on flat designs.

As for the colour I completely agree, I often struggle choosing colour schemes and I was thinking of brightening up the contact and gallery sections significantly.

Snoopy, I know about the missing contact and gallery, I was just looking for feedback on the design so far so I can move in another direction if it received mostly negative feedback.

I've been working this week so I haven't had the opportunity to fix the JS bugs which I'm aware of but thank you for the heads up, it's my task this weekend to polish the JS up to make it less buggy.

Thank you, both of you, I'm very grateful for your feedback.
