What language is this?

Posted 27 January 2014 - 02:01 PM

I am an amateur programmer, so I get pretty confused looking other code/api. What language is this in? How do you know? Why does the author assume that we know? Is this common?

Thanks from a noob.

- (void)viewDidLoad
{
    [super viewDidLoad];

    /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
    // setup Estimote beacon manager

    // create manager instance
    self.beaconManager = [[ESTBeaconManager alloc] init];
    self.beaconManager.delegate = self;
    self.beaconManager.avoidUnknownStateBeacons = YES;

    // create sample region object (you can additionaly pass major / minor values)
    ESTBeaconRegion* region = [[ESTBeaconRegion alloc] initRegionWithIdentifier:@"EstimoteSampleRegion"];

    // start looking for estimtoe beacons in region
    // when beacon ranged beaconManager:didRangeBeacons:inRegion: invoked
    [self.beaconManager startRangingBeaconsInRegion:region];

    /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
    // setup Estimote beacon manager

    [self setupView];
}

If it were me I would also post where you got the code from.

It looks like they have an SDK for both iOS and Android.. so pick one... the code you have above's tutorial links to an iOSX-sdk on github.. so yeah.. probably objective c.

Looks like obj-c to me.

If it's a blog post about an iOS app, they probably assume you know that obj-c is the language you use for that. Sort of like you're going to assume that someone reading an android blog post will know that java is the default language there.
