Closures would probably be a good topic. Maybe callback functions, recursive functions, or functions in general (anonymous functions, object methods, etc). Doing ajax requests with native Javascript might be another. In the spirit of keeping things modern, that one might only discuss using the native XHR object and just make a note that older versions of IE don't support it.

In your opinion what category would each of these be under?

I'd bet people would be interested in some of the upcoming ES6 topics including Web Components, Shadow DOM, Object.observe(), new syntactic sugar for classes and inheritance, etc.

I would say functions would be a beginner topic. Maybe a description of using the arguments array to access arbitrary parameters also. Closures and ajax would probably be intermediate.

Am I the only one who thinks Closures should be beginner? While the concept can be very mind intensive, it is also a very important thing to wrap the head around when using javascript.

this is true for pretty much every concept in JS.

but given my own personal experience with our beginners, Id still put it into Intermediates, because interest in JS (which you would need to understand advanced concepts) is my sign for an Intermediate Level.
