CSS- Hover on Title

Posted 20 February 2014 - 08:20 PM

Hello, thank you in advanced for taking the time to read this and considering helping me.

I am working on Wordpress theme that I built from scratch.

I am wanting to change the a:hover color for the title <h> tag for blog posts in Wordpress. I inspected the element and there seems to be an element that isn't even in my style.css. I have no other css documents so I don't know where this element is being called from. I am very proficient in css, but can't seem to crack this.

This is what the inspector shows me. I don't want to publicize the link to the site. Is there another way?
element {
    font-size: 24px;
    font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;
    color: #4DA3A6;
}

Hey.

Which browser are you inspecting this on?

Usually when you see an element or (typically) element.style CSS class in the browser dev tools, it means you are looking at styles either set using HTML "style" attributes, or via Javascript through the element.style property. - My guess is that some WP plugin, or other 3rd party Javascript file, is modifying the element in question through code.

Hello Atli,

I appreciate your response. I am using Firefox for the inspector. I thought about that too, regarding a plugin or js controlling it, however, it's using a color that I specified. The color for a:link is correct, I just need the a:hover to be a different color, but can't seem to locate the id or class.

This is a better version of what the inspector spits out:

<a style="font-size: 24px; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #4DA3A6;" title=""/"></a>

OK, so all you are after is changing a CSS style for this element?

If the element has no class or ID to use as a selector, is it in a fixed position relative to another element that does? For example:
<body>
  <header>
     <h1><a href="#..."></a></h1>
  </header>
</body>

<style>
body > header h1 a:hover {
    color: red;
}
</style>

I'd also imagine that WP allows you to change the templates used to generate the blog markup, which would let you set a class for it.
