Website question

Posted 07 March 2014 - 05:14 AM

A friend's starting up a new business and is thinking of using these guys 1&1 and asked my opinion. I haven't offered to do it for him as I haven't got the time but I don't know anything about this kind of thing, anyone else come across them?

** Moved to Web Hosting & Servers **

Opinions depend on what they are looking to get out of a web host. Speed, storage size, vps, billing, customer support, bandwidth, security?

No one excels in all areas.

I use them for domain names, but found cheaper hosting at a1whs for my bandwidth/space needs.

I really don't like 1&1. I've used them several times (domain and web hosting) and their slow UI is enough to make me want to spend the extra $1 a month for something better. I've tried GoDaddy and wasn't impressed. Also, a little while back they supported SOPA and it put a sour taste in my mouth. Personal preference though.

For the past year or so I've been using Total Control Hosting and I like them. I have their cheapest package (~$4 a month I think) and I really enjoy it.
