sessions in html5

hi ive tried looking it up but havent found any useful information but im trying to find out if there is ay change to sessions in html5 as i need to check if users are logged in ive done the equivelent in html4 but i was told sessions had changed in html5 the only information i could find was on web storage which is all client side

I'm not entirely clear on what you need, however I think this tutorial might help you out

im aware of sessionStorage and localStorage but there both unsecure as the user can edit them i'm looking for the equivalent to html4 sessions where part of the data was stored on the server as after there logged in i need it to recognize that there logged in.
