Resources, links, inspiration, and utilities!

Posted 03 April 2014 - 11:49 AM

Like most of the other forums a common question is 'where to start?'. Where does one start their trek into the bush of typography, color design, drawing, illustrating, etc? Are they too old to start, too young, too busy, wrongly-brained, and so on.

I have to slow down folks, and start with the basics - what do you look at for inspiration? Motivation? Exposure to techniques and ideas? Typically this is a short conversation, but I wish to broaden the horizons of everyone. This is something you need not be daunted by or shy away from! Everyone starts somewhere, and with some time (and practice) you can have a whole new skill set branch open up to you.

Get up - and explore! Keep a folder of interesting images from online, scraps of text on why it was important, flag something to use later, or go outside and just take interesting photos of things around you. Heck - I have two folders dedicated to interesting textures I've come across as well as various pictures of the sky/clouds/lighting.

Here are a few links and resources that I cycle through on a semi daily basis - be it for interesting new techniques, inspiration, or I need a color scheme.

If you have any sites you head for inspiration or design let everyone know and post it to the thread!

I use to have a lot of mini-tutorials such as this one but I've lost most of them. They're not very hard to find if you spend some time searching one rainy afternoon.

If you need another general 'inspiration' - cruzine looks pretty solid.

Per their about:

Quote

Cruzine is a new online magazine, which we would like to present to everyone, who has true interest and passion for everything, associated with creative arts, web design, graphical arts, typography, coding, and other web- and design-related activities.
