Well the creator, Mike Judge, apparently worked in Silicon Valley for 3 months and then quit. He decided that gave himself sufficient experience with it to create a TV show.

I haven't seen the first episode yet, but I worry they are going to try and be the new Big Bang Theory, and be "edgy" and "hip" by making nerdy jokes etc.

Mike Judge, creator of Beavis and Butthead, King of the Hill, and Office Space.

I'm sure he has a SME for Silicon Valley. I'm also sure it'll be good and clever in the manner of Office Space and not shitty and offensive in the manner of the Big Bang Theory

Confirmed. It's well done. A lot of the jokes are cultural too, as in tech culture - silly little things get mocked the way we (or at least I) actually do. "You have to download your own media player? What, did he go back to 2009?" and it paints the perfectly banal corporation fairly well.

It looks like it's going to be good. It's clever and witty, but also doesn't appear to be done as a straight comedy like Office Space. Also, everything they talk about code-wise isn't gibberish. No two people typing on the same keyboard, no building a GUI in VB to track the IP address, no laugh track. I look forward to the next episode.

Also, the surprise Green Day was nice

it hits really close to home. a lot of the conversations (outside of the ones involving large amounts of money) feel really familiar, i've met some version of everyone on the show at some point. even the fake company name, aviata, is close to the name of the company i work for right now.

also, i hate the spineless main character.

I loved it. I loved the part about Steve Jobs being a "poser" lol.

Exactly. That's what I mean, Sloth - there's some humor, but it captures a lot of the culture we're in fairly accurately. But this is the same guy who did Office Space. And ya, I'm not too impressed with the main character - maybe he'll shape up, maybe he'll pull a Ned Stark and my new favorite will be the hippy ass founder of Aviata

And Necro, I cracked up at that part.
