Unable to configure barnyard2

Posted 23 April 2014 - 12:46 AM

So, I used this tutorial on how to configure and install Snort.

However, I'm stuck while trying to install Barnyard 2. I was able to download and unzip it, but when I tried to configure it using

./configure--with-mysql --with-mysql-libraries=/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu
I received a

./configure: command not found
message.

I even tried the suggestions given here, but I received the same results. I even tried redownloading barnyard2, but I received the same error message. I'm using Linux Mint, if that helps.

If you do an ls -l is there a script for configure in that directory? If so, is it executable?

Also put a space after ./configure before the first option (with --).

./configure --with-mysql --with-mysql-libraries=/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu

Well, I tried downloading it again, and when I executed the command:

autoreconf -fvi -I ./m4

I received the error message:

autoreconf: Entering directory `.'
autoreconf: configure.in: not using Gettext
autoreconf: running: aclocal -I ./m4 -I m4 --output=aclocal.m4t
Can't exec "aclocal": No such file or directory at /usr/share/autoconf/Autom4te/FileUtils.pm line 326.
autoreconf: failed to run aclocal: No such file or directory

And there is a configure file inside the directory, I checked before I posted here:

ls -l | grep configure

-rw-rw-r-- 1 root root 34166 Mei 27 2013 configure.in

And even after changing it to executable:

-rwxrwxrwx 1 root root 34166 Mei 27 2013 configure.in

I'm still getting the same error message.

I even copied the contents of the configure.in file they have on their github repository to replace mine, but the problem still persists.

Well, that escalated quickly.

What happened was:

I noticed this error message:

Can't exec "aclocal": No such file or directory at /usr/share/autoconf/Autom4te/FileUtils.pm line 326.

So, I thought I'd look around, and one suggestion to resolve this issue was to install Automake, except for some even stranger reason apt-get is now broken, despite the fact that I haven't even touched it.

Well, so I fixed apt-get, installed automake, and changed the configure.in file to configure.ac, and finally I could install barnyard2.

I guess it's solved, then.

Glad you got it sorted. I've never installed snort or barnyard & was completely unfamiliar with the issue as you described it.
