I don't have the programming skill others do here, but I'd be willing to help.

As far as my rpg (was talking about in the caffeine lounge), some of the ideas I have are here : http://blogs.indie-r...com/bcsoftware/

I have several different Ideas and ways to go about it. Thanks to my Asperger's I have spent enough time in the books and research to make several outlines for action, action-rpg, rpg, strategy, RTS, and a few others.

My all time favorite right now is the simplified Action/RPG Concept

I know to start out with, we are going to need:
1)Secured Forum/System of Communication
2)Project Hosting Server
3)Decisions on Language/Type/Genre/Engine (etc.)
4)Ability to Remote in to Hosting Server/add Code to Project remotely.
5)Agreements for all those involved to keep it a secret(the actual game itself, not the discussion in general).(you would be surprised on the corporate espionage that takes place in the gaming industry)

Permission from this Site's Administrator/Owner to talk about it here.

We should set up a password locked forum, not sure how google code works. Once we do that, we should run polls to see what language everyone is best in and the type of game we want. See where our skills at.

I'm not a security expert but Google does take their security seriously. I'm pretty sure everything can be set to private.

I don't know about github, never done anything on it, but I hear it's good. I've only done collaborative design in Google Code but that was easy to use when I did it.

Nice, I don't really have much experience with programming but I really love to be part of this.

From what I am reading on Github, you can conceal your project or open it up to everyone. I would say setup the main Bugs/Forums on Google Code, have the github host it.(they link together)

Thoughts?

So.. just to step in here.

1)Secured Forum/System of Communication

Why is this needed if this is this just a collaborative for-fun effort?

2)Project Hosting Server

Hosting for the files, or are you expecting the game to be multiplayer right off the bat?

It is for a fun effort, there is something about the gaming industry that likes to steal ideas. It would really suck to actually get it up and running and have big daddy industry, have already done it because they stole the idea.Worse yet not get the slightest nod that we started it.

It something we can say "hey we did that" (for better or worse) and take pride in it.

I was thinking more the fact that we are spread all over the world. It makes it difficult to work on a project without a central location for the project. Sure we can all add bits of code to a designated person's project but I think it would be simpler just have a core area. As the military says KISS
