Linked List questions...create my own or use LinkedList<E> jav

Posted 30 May 2014 - 07:01 PM

I've been over the tutorial and have some questions. In class, we were shown how to use the java linked list class, using it's add and remove methods to manipulate our data. The tutorial here on DIC shows how to create one from scratch...which is the better route?

The native java class seems easier to use, just wondering why the tutorials I've seen teach a different way.

In Data Structures courses, students roll their own data structures (such as a Linked List) to learn how they work. It's important to understand how they work, as you may find yourself borrowing approaches when implementing solutions. In general, if a data structure you need is provided, you should use that.

Got it, I'll try both as to take as much away from it as possible.
