Advice for database/website

Posted 25 June 2014 - 08:36 AM

I am trying to build a mobile friendly website/database/app for the faculty at my school that has categories of items, and viewers can sort/apply filters to those items and rate/comment on them. It needs to be internal only. Will Microsoft SharePoint do this? All the basic build your own website and app sites do not offer these type of features. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you!!

Sharepoint is more of a doc management system.. You can certainly make a website, in say ASP.NET, compile it, and chuck it in there..but you would need to have some sort of either SQLLITe file or mssql server for the db part.

App wise- that's a different ball of wax.

First off welcome.

Do you have programming experience prior to this endeavor? Using the idea of SharePoint makes me wonder the objective, would the schools server hosting the application? Have you thought of the languages you will use? Do you want a set application or just a mobile friendly website?

Assuming you have the schools permission, find out what RDBM they currently use.
