Asp.net Application locking text files

Posted 26 June 2014 - 08:12 AM

I'm working in conjunction with a vb6 dll that does a lot of reading and writing to text files, all of which are forcibly closed after but my application is still active and locking those files open continuously. Anyone know a way I can force them to close? It makes absolutely no sense that they could still be open.

How does this vb6 dll open/close the files now? It's possible the app pool has orphaned connections still open.

From what I can see the typical. Is there a way I can figure out if the app pool has orphaned connections?

Open *file* For Output As #FreeFileInt

....

Close #FreeFileInt

As I said - it's an educated stab in the dark. The whole thing is a little odd using a VB6 dll to write to a file via an ASP.NET app when you have all the .NET options available.. *shrug*

If you have access to the IIS - do what ever actions cause the lock, and right after verifying the file is locked, go in and reset the app pool in IIS (the app pool the asp.net app is using)... and see if that affects if the file is locked.

Yea I agree. I'm working with another developer who uses VB6, and has been since the creation lol. Too much work and time to teach him the new stuff when we have to finish this project immediately. I changed the idle time and have yet to see the error occur again. At the same time we had another issue, somehow Mozilla isn't returning cookies sometimes when I use Request("HTTP_COOKIE") and parse or Request.Cookies("USERID") despite Firebug showing the cookie I'm looking for lol. Another long day, thanks for the help modi123_1.
