I don't see how the above list is an 'experiment'. They are actions towards a goal. Attempting to reach a specific outcome. I would expect an experiment to be : What happens when I put tin-foil in the microwave.

and yet, those are the responses I've gotten from this source alone

Clearly people do not understand the concept of what an experiment is.

...yeah but you posted it on Reddit. You're getting responses from 15 year olds that have taken a break from looking at boobs to promote racism. The internet hasn't changed much since in the last 20 years.

oh man, we have moved on from the topic of the thread and already arguing over the semantics of the original intent of the thread before the end of page 2. way to go nerds, always keeping this place fun and interesting!

modi, there is too much idiomatic stuff in your reply, I didn't get half of it. Sorry XD

Concerning the part you have quoted, I'm confident the "scientists" mentioned in the article only did a dimensional analysis (basically, a "rule of three" with dimensions involving the Planck constant, the speed of light constant and Newton's constant) to come to this conclusion. It's just some Maths out of nowhere with no added scientific value. As if a doctor gave you a reading of your blood analysis but had no idea what it meant.

To give figures :

We measure the energy of cosmic rays hitting the surface of the Earth between 10^-3 TeV and 10^6 TeV. The weakest are detected every day, the strongest are detected few times a year.

If you apply the dimensional analysis for 3 dimensions it gives you about 10^16 TeV required to create a micro black hole.
If you apply it for 3+6 dimensions it gives you 1.5 TeV required to create a micro black hole

The LHC is capable of reaching 7 TeV (so I guess 14 TeV when there is a collision ? Not sure of that. Anyway, it gives an order of magnitude).

If we were capable of creating a black hole with the LHC and if it were dangerous we would have been aware of the issue a long time ago since the most energetic cosmic rays recorded are a million times more energetic than that.

I would like a simulator that would make highly realistic and real time impacts if you were to do things like this, considering the comments of this thread have gone off topic, I believe this should help. I do not think such an advanced simulator will be available for at least the next ten years, depending on how Quantum Computation goes, but if this is created and sold to the public in my lifetime, I am going to have some fun!

That's the thing about poor quality topics, they run their course rather quickly. "What would you do", "What do you think" type of topics will have people trying to up the auntie. The more crazy the answers are, the more likely people are going to jump off topic. & this? A huge 'what if' with no real discussion value, it was doomed from the get go.

Reddit topics belong on Reddit.

You're welcome to post them, but people are welcome to reply.

it's not people jumping off-topic it's people just nit-picking the topic.

jumping off-topic would be respectable.

And now we're arguing about whether we've gone off-topic or meta-topic. So I think we've gone paratopic - does this mean I get to kill the thread?

No, because then it'll be a necrotopic, and we already have a big enough problem with the zombies.
