Funny Customer Stories

Posted 13 July 2014 - 09:14 PM

A couple months ago I started work at the first job I had that had me actually dealing with customers. Since then, one of my favorite things to do has been complaining about said customers. How many people here work in jobs like sales, retail, support, food service, etc. that have you dealing with people other than your coworkers for prolonged periods of time? Who has funny stories about customers that are too dumb to function? Feed me.

I'll start. I work for a large unspecified and soon to be bankrupt consumer electronics company. The other day a group of teenage girls came in, and I asked them if I could help them find anything, as I'm wont to do. I guess one of the girls wasn't very used to being out in public, because she looked at me, opened her mouth, made a goat noise, covered her mouth, and walked out the door. I'm still trying to wrap my head around that one.

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

Was she furry, with weird funny looking eyes? If so, she might have actually been a goat.

That would be ridiculous. Everyone knows goats do their electronics shopping at Best Buy.

Are you sure? The clientele at MicroCenter often smells like they're at least part goat.

I was working claims calls at a major insurance company several years ago. I had an obviously elder lady call, "There is a dead raccoon under my house."

"I'm sorry ma'am, This is an insurance company. You need animal control or something like that."

"I know. I called and they said they couldn't do anything about it so I called you."

"Does the dead racoon have his insurance card on him?"

"No."

"Then, I can't help either."

There was this one time, someone carelessly posted information mocking their customers, & they were lost on the idea of who actually feeds into the business that created their paycheck, & they lost there job because the customers went elsewhere!!!

HILARIOUS RIGHT?!

I don't think job security is high on his priorities list right now.

If it's Microcenter, I have to cringe. They're one of the only companies I've seen try to actively discourage people from spending tens of thousands of dollars at their store. Wouldn't be surprised if they're sinking.

This seems like an appropriate place to link reddit's Tales from Tech Support subreddit. I'm not sure how many of the stories I believe anymore, but they're pretty funny.

I love TFTS, such a great place for a good laugh at customer shenanigans.

And there are few that I disbelieve, mostly cause I did 7 years in tech support, I know just how stupid users can be, so I'm not shocked by much of it any more.

Really, it's the serials that I don't believe. I thought /u/airz23's story was really good at first...then the characters just got so unbelievable that I stopped thinking about it as a real story and started thinking of it as a comic without drawings.

oh yea, the serials are too contrived to be real. But things like "I had a woman call the cops cause I wouldn't let her access the system without authenticating" don't really surprise me. Hell some of the Airz23 stuff didn't seem that far fetched (some does, of course).

edit accidentally a word

Your idealism is admirable; feel good about yourself. Me, I do my job well and treat my customers with nothing but politeness, which sometimes results in needed a good drink after work. So I'm going to continue to discretely poke gentle fun at my patrons when the need arises and not feel bad about it.
