Moving to SF

POPULAR

Well as of today I just turned in my notice at work, and I'm going to be headed to San Francisco. I'm going to be taking up a Senior Infrastructure Automation and DevOps role at Sony on the Playstation team.

Don't suppose anyone here is already out that way? I still hardly know anyone up that way.

Too expensive to get a 2-bed over there. Around KC it's maybe $50-150 more a month. There? $300-500. Are people still free to crash a couch? Don't see why not.

As far as what I'm doing, looks like Rails, AngularJS, AWS, Chef, Cassandra, and a ton of data visualization.

a ton of data visualization.

at work we have in-house training seminars regularly. Things like object oriented design, data warehousing, unit testing, just refresher course style 'classes' done by employees to help keep everyone up to date and refreshed - and we're interested in employee retention so if someone wants to move from Actuarial to IT they can sit in on these and learn and eventually transition over, it's cool. So, there was a class on data visualization.

I thought it would be like visual analytics. Nope, it was graphing. So now I think you're using Rails etc to make lots of really pretty bar graphs.

p.s. grats on the job and move, I hope you love it, do well, and enjoy your new city!
