Could you post the link to the page that should have the link to the .pdf in it?

I suspect this is a simple pathing issue.

Then if the PDF is in the same folder as parties.cfm, then the anchor tag to open in a new window would be what you have, already.

<a href="VenueContract.pdf" target="_blank">Text to click</a>

You can also assign a name to the target attribute, if you like (this will give the window a name that Javascript can use):

<a href="VenueContract.pdf" target="VenueContract">Text to click</a>

I can't see the file (my network blocks that link), so if it's giving an error, I can't see it. But it should be opening a PDF in a new window.

If the PDF is opening in Adobe Reader, then that's because the browser has the PDF plugin and is instructed to open PDFs in Reader instead of in a browser window. Likewise, if clicking the link has the browser ask where you want to save the file, then the browser has a setting that tells it to do so for all PDF files.

EDIT: The exception to this (the only one I can think of) would be if parties.cfm is an INCLUDE, itself. If that's the case, it's probably a lot more complex than it needs to be.

Actually, now that I look at it, I think I know what's going on. Your site has a custom framework in play. It's doing an intercept and trying to serve the appropriate page and it didn't contemplate a .pdf extension so it has no allowance for it.

Do you have a publicly accessible Dropbox account or someplace off that site that you could host the .pdf file? If you do then you could leave the .pdf there and use a full URL (eg: http://www.dropbox.c...eContract.pdf). If not, you can drop the .pdf into your /images/folder and then modify your link to be "/images/VenueContract.pdf" and that should work.

Try either of those solutions and let us know if that doesn't get you where you want to be.
