basic searchbar help

Posted 08 August 2014 - 08:07 AM

hey guys

Im in a jam.. kinda :hungry:

Building a very basic website and i want to implement a simple search function

Ive coded the looks of the searchbar in html and css. the only thing missing is the functionality,i have no idea where to start lol.

So what I want it to do is let users search names from a list of 200 names and each name has its own page

example

-user types in bob
-user hits searchbutton
- search results show up
- 2 results are found bob and bobby
- user clicks on bobby
- site.com/bobby page shows

thats it! I thought it was easy but oh man..

can anyone help me out? how can i achieve this kind of search functionality?

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

I would advocate looking into server side languages (like PHP) to take the search data, offered up by a client button click event, queries a database, and then returns/formats the results on the screen.

you could use the typeahead library …

… in combination with server-side code.
