Ask questions and generate a word document

Posted 22 August 2014 - 09:00 PM

Hello,

I'm new to coding, I'm a beginner in programming. I am trying to build this code and need someone to direct me the right way. I think the program i want to build is simple. Here it is.

Bascially, the program will fill a template that is hard-coded in it. It would fill out the blanks with answers from questions the program asks the user for. The problem that I am facing is, how do i generate it into a word document? or a PDF document?

I would really appreciate your help.

Thank you!

A cursory search of "python save as pdf" came up with a solid recommendation..

Word is a proprietary format that, historically at least, has been resistant to outside users, by design. There's also little reason to generate a document in that format, unless you're specifically looking to make a document that someone can edit after it's generated. I'd think carefully before treading into that morass.

PDF, on the other hand, has become an open format and there are various libraries for working with it. You should try at least a couple of them and see which ones seem most pleasant to you.

(I'll let you google the different ones - I see at least three)

If you specifically want to work with Word then searching "python create word document" comes up with many results, including this SO topic.
