2D games. Which language use?

Posted 07 November 2014 - 07:56 AM

I'm interested in creating 3D games, but I guess it would be better to start with 2D. Few years ago I used to create mini games with Java, later I tried Slick 2D game engine for Java.

I would like to hear your suggestions : which language to use? I want ability to create 2D games for single, and multi player modes(2 on one keyboard or via Interner). Is it worth to do everything pretty much from scratch when there are Unity and similar stuff? I never used them before, but it looks like that there is not a lot to code.

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

You can use any language that has a GUI component. vb.net, c#, mono, c++, java, python, etc.

I am against trying to have folks new to the videogame world build an engine to make their game. There are plenty of 2d options out there.. (I am preferential to Unity's 2d).. but there are things like torque, ogre, etc.

I enjoy unity, and I have been puttering around with a 2d side scroller for a while now. Yes, so I say.

I use C# with Unity, but there is also javascript options.
