Well, first thing's first, if you don't have a compiler grab the Microsoft Visual Basic 2005 Express Edition (unless you can get Visual Studio 2005 through your school). This is a somewhat limited version, but it should do most of what you'll need it to.

Next lesson, the MSDN Library is your friend.

We also have the VB.NET Basics Reference Sheet to help you with syntax, and a lot of the tutorials on this site are designed around beginners.

Hope this was of some help, this is all I can come up with at the moment. I'm drawing a blank for some reason.

EDIT: Also, if this is your first shot at programming, don't expect to be coding any massive and grand applications overnight. Baby steps are key when you're just starting out, especially with something as complex as programming.

The trick here is to go with what you know. Take your favorite kids game in which you consider yourself an expert, then begin coding that game.
1. Write out each step the program will need to accomplish (on paper or text file, etc)
2. Design your screen interface for the game (Again on paper or Paint or similar)
3. Begin by designing your Game Page in VB.net
4. Build the program to make the game work.
