Change (mask) the MAC address on your nic

Posted 18 July 2007 - 12:36 PM

Description: The MAC address is in the firmware of the nic, & will boot to the original address. This simply changes it on the OS, so if you want to change this, I would suggest placing this script in /etc/rc.d/rc.local.Alter the MAC address for your Network Interface Card.
# eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:01:02:FC:93:83
# inet addr:192.168.0.2 Bcast:192.168.0.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
# UP BROADCAST NOTRAILERS RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
# RX packets:3872 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
# TX packets:5559 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
# collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
# RX bytes:4569430 (4.3 Mb) TX bytes:408406 (398.8 Kb)
# Interrupt:11 Base address:0x2000

ifconfig eth0 down
ifconfig eth0 hw ether 00:00:00:00:00:00
ifconfig eth0 up

# eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:00:00:00:00:00
# inet addr:192.168.0.2 Bcast:192.168.0.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
