Crystal reports show border if null

Posted 03 February 2015 - 11:31 AM

so i have tried the following :

if isnull({field)}) then
Cstr(" ")
else
Cstr({field})

if isnull({field}) then
Space(3)
else
Cstr({field})

if isnull({field}) then
Cstr("")
else
Cstr({field})

all in the format field > display string formula section

none of it works

the border never shows if the field is null or empty

i need the border to show no matter what

i cant add a text box because i have over 90 fields on this report and I dont have time to change it all out.

also i did not make this report. Anyone have thoughts?

thanks

Just as a test: Do you get a border if you default to something other than whitespace when the field is null?
What I mean is: Instead of filling with 3 spaces fill with "YogiBear" - just as a test.
That will confirm 2 things:
That your fallback value works if you really see "YogiBear"
That a border does appear if the displayed text is something other than whitespace.
