Great Python Challenge for all!

Posted 15 June 2015 - 05:32 AM

Hi all,

I came across this site and found it a great way of testing your python knowledge and also getting your thinking cap on.

I only managed to level 6, but I'm sure you guys will have a good crack at it.

I have a inherent distrust of websites that look like they haven't changed since before google...

That maybe the case, but looking at source files and reverse enginnering the site, I can not see any malicious code and scripts are run by yourself, through your own IDE to manipulate the urls, which you enter manually yourself.

I just found it a great way of improving my python skills and helped me learn different concepts and how to best utilse the skills to create useful scripts, which can be used for a range of subjects and mini projects.

I understand the distrust, but don't fix anything that isn't broken! I also researched the site beforehand and can't find anything that negates the site as a secuirty risk.

Heh, I wasn't implying it's malicious. Just... out of touch.

However, if you want play with programming challenges, I'd recommend sites that actually required you to write programs and allow you to discuss the process with others.

Project Euler ( https://projecteuler.net/ ) would be one of the classics. There's a ton of them now, though. I recently found CodinGame ( https://www.codingame.com/start ) amusing.

Adding to what baavgai has posted above, I've found www.checkio.org to be a really fun, useful and challenging website! I haven't managed to do a great deal on there so far but it's always awesome when I manage to solve something that's been bugging me for a while.

Never heard of all of such approaches, will be 'playing' them soon. Thanks for the links.

codeeval.com is also worth a look. Their interesting premise is that they make some attempt to tie your progress to companies' recruitment efforts, so solving problems "unlocks" some job offers. I don't know how well this works in terms of getting people hired, but it does mean that the site is a good place to practice the sort of problems that show up in technical interviews.

It looks great, doubt there is my country on that list of companies that seek employees through it if it does work, but I collect anything to strengthen or improve my Pythonski.
Thanks again! :)
