Best way to get experience in non job related field?

Posted 21 June 2015 - 08:21 PM

I'm currently taking computer science classes while working full time as a business analyst. I'm hoping to get the degree and move on to a software engineering position.

But since I already have a job and working full time, it's rather hard to get an internship as a software engineer. What are some good projects or ways to gain the experience that would've been gained from said internships?

I really would like to focus on web development and building applications.

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

Have you thought about trying some of the ideas on the project lists?

Project Ideas

Martyr2 Mega Project List

... perhaps putting them on github so folks can see your work? Basically a portfolio..

Ah that's a good list.

Though a lot of those projects are more like class assignment/projects. Normally, what would software engineering interns be asked to work on/do? That's what I want to know, since I' taking classes, I'll be working on projects similar to the ones in those list.

You can make your own projects, and fix the related problems to them. And gain experience.
