A computer in the company seems to have somehow killed it's hard drive. I can't boot from it or even find it in the bios at all, so I'm looking online to try and find any better answers. Some people fixed their problem because it was a bios setting, but this seems to be the actual hard drive from what I've been experiencing so far :/.

Pull it, slap it on a IDE/SATA to USB, and see what shakes.

Re: What are you working on today?

Finished all of the training videos for my new job (well, actually, I finished them last night. It was about 12 hours worth of videos, but I did it in one day in hopes of getting to work on something more real today -- read: not training videos). Today I did get non-training video work to do, but I can't say it was overly interesting. I got to learn how to download code to servers and run tests. On the plus side I found that their virtual clusters are currently broken to the point of not working at all... Though I don't get to work on a fix... or probably see what the fix was unless I track it down in the revision history once it goes in. Outside of that, I got to run the regression suite against my local (unchanged) build, and try and figure out how to get mercurial to allow me to pull from multiple repositories (since they use a pseudo-github model where we fork a repository and work on that, and then eventually merge it back in to the release repository -- which isn't as easy as git makes it to actually pull the newest code from the release repo as I would have liked). The first time I wound up getting my repository into a state I wasn't sure how to recover from (they should be using git...) and wound up taking the easy approach: cloning it again from scratch. The second time I got it to work, but had to have a merge commit in there I didn't really want (they automatically create some commits for you when you fork a repository, meaning that you are forced to have a merge since apparently mercurial isn't as good about that as git is -- or I don't know what I am doing: quite possible).

Hopefully tomorrow will have me start poking around the code.

I was working on trying to fix my codeblocks, I kept getting the "Cannot find executable for Visual Basic Compiler configured to your PATH variable." The thing is...I did't even have my default compiler set for Visual Basic, I had it set for GCC. I spent a few hours on that, trying everything from changing the userPATH in environment variables, read all kinds of docs on mingw installation, and finally tried a good ol'uninstall/re-install.....nothing worked. So, I decided to leave it be and just work on Netbeans....now I plan on debugging a notepad i did from a tut I found on here.

Got a script to a workable state at work. We have lots of different "sites" and each site has it's own home directory for linux. So if I change my shell (which I have to do with a custom program that makes API calls to our authentication server, and wait for it to update, and hope there are no authentication errors, which we've been having lately), I have to do it individually at each site, and all my environment configuratoin files (.profile, etc.) are also per-site. So I wrote a python script that runs everytime you start a login shell and updates itself and your linux files from github to keep them all synced around the different sites. Good python learning experience. Other than that, I've been unpacking for weeks. Long story short, ex and I thought we were moving in together again, broke up while all of our stuff was in storage together, now I'm unpacking 2.5 people's worth of boxes. :/

Continuing to put software on these computers for people at work and a lady over in the office needs me to go help her figure out her TeamViewer password. Exciting times!

Oh, and in between that stuff I'm working hard on classes in C++. I have a basic macronutrient calculator made now using classes, which I think it awesome for me so far.
