How to restore a folder which is deleted from the external drive?

Posted 11 September 2015 - 06:11 PM

I have deleted a big folder with valuable files from the external drive which is still connected to the computer. The folder is not in the Recycle bin. How to restore it?
OS Windows 10, Computer HP.

Deleted files can technically be recovered, however there is no simple method for that built into the OS. You'll need to get some sort of recovery software. (You can find plenty of options by Googling the subject.)

You should also stop using the drive until you recover the files, or it may start writing new files on top of the deleted files, and at that point they are pretty much unrecoverable.

My advice: if these are really valuable files, got to a repair shop, or find somebody with experience doing this. If you start messing around without the know-how, you may well mess it all up.
