Help with bootable usb

Posted 14 December 2015 - 12:55 PM

Just got my laptop in the mail made a short video here. I used the windows usb/dvd download tool to turn my 32 gig usb drive into a bootable one so i could boot windows 7 64 bit on my laptop since it has no cd/ dvd drive but im having issues any help is appreciated. The format of the drive is FAT32 right now i had followed this tutorial before i used the windows tool https://technet.micr...y/jj200124.aspx I might give this one a try too https://rufus.akeo.ie/ any other advice? This laptop only has usb 3.0 ports btw.

The video is no longer valid so, perhaps, explain in some words what is not happening.

I am guessing windows 7 is not installed on the main computer? A bootable USB drive would be to create recovery media and not to make windows7 some sort of live-usb.

Is it trying to boot from the USB? Is USB higher than other devices in the boot priority? Can you verify the USB works with other devices (pc/laptop)?

When you say 'booted' do you mean "starting through the install process"?

Also - what laptop make/model are you trying to install windows on?

Look at that youtube link i posted its the exact error im having. The laptop is the sager np 9870-s also known as the clevo p870dm-g its a brand new laptop clevo just released the desgin for it. It has no cd / dvd drive only usb 3.0 ports no usb 2.0 I already contacted support but they are slow to respond. http://www.xoticpc.c...dmg-p-8798.html

It loaded windows 7 successfully

As in you got a desktop of windows 7 from the USB stick, or were able to start the install process?

What's the OS installed on it now?

You dropped 2800 on a gaudy looking laptop and some how got them to not install windows 10? I mean - *NOT* installing is not even an option on their site.

it is actually an option on xoticpc it comes with no OS unless you specify. Now if you buy it from the sager site it does not have an option to choose no OS. Thats why xoticpc is cheaper. Also it wasnt 2800 it was 3 thousand and a lil more. desktop i7 6700k and dual gtx 980m's in sli with 24 gigs of ddr4 ram and 256 gig ssd with 1 tb hard drive and gsync monitor with many expansion slots aswell.

wowzers.. your final price was over 3k and you balked at the 80 for the OS install? Strange, but then again that whole "laptop" setup is strange so probably par for the course. I mean I'm not saying you got hosed, but I am thinking you got hosed. Doubly so if you dropped over 3k for that jersy-shore-esque brick and have zero tech support numbers to call.

i got this message from sager
The Skylake chipset does not have USB 2.0 anymore. The Windows 7 installation does not support USB 3.0. You need to inject the Intel USB 3.0 driver to the Windows 7 installation media. It is a complicated process.
Here is a video:
https://www.youtube....h?v=d_zPIGrFypI

i patched the windows 7 iso file already so im about to test it on the laptop here in a minute. I figured it had to do with it not having usb 2.0 ports.
