What was the last movie you watched?

Posted 24 December 2015 - 11:36 AM

It was surprising to not find a thread talking about movies. Almost every forum around the internet has at least one. So here it goes.

Last one: The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2
Previously: Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens
Before that: Spectre

Well, what have you gone to theaters to watch?
EDIT: Not necessarily to theaters. Home viewing is also okay.

I haven't seen star wars yet, but the other 2 were good. Other than that last movie I watched was the cobbler with Adam Sandler.

Unfortunately, there's not a lot of people making movies worth seeing these days - certainly not worth talking about. As far as I can recall, the last movie I went to was when the Coolidge Corner showed Seven Samurai this summer. It was glorious. The only thing that has been made recently that I've seen and liked was Ned Rifle, which was quite good (and really deserves to be seen on a proper screen). Obviously, I've also seen some of the regular big-studio movies that have been released, but those were so awful I've been trying to forget them ever since. I've pretty much sworn off them at this point.

Last movie I saw in a theater was Inside Out on a date early in the summer. Before that it was the Last Samurai.

Home viewing, the last movie I watched was That Thing You Do, which is actually one of my all time favorites.

I don't generally watch a lot of movies, they tend to be huge disappointments. I keep hearing mixed reviews on Star Wars 7, so I'll see it when it comes out on Netflix. Unless the new lady wants to see it, I suppose, I might take her. But I hate hate hate movies as dates.

Just saw "The Force Awakens" with my son- his first theater movie experience. It was a good flick, but the more I think about it, the less I like the Star Wars franchise now, and this movie crystalized it for me. It's a universe where the good guys are super-human and above all law. Even Darth Vader gets redemption at the end, despite having literally committed murder on billions of people in the movie- remember the Death Star? I just can't get behind the idea of 'divine rights'. They'd be perfect if it weren't for that- but literally every character that can use the force is considered more valuable as a person than every character that can't, and the droids are given sentience, but that sentience isn't recognized, even where slavery isn't allowed. This isn't science fiction, it's a spiritualized Dungeons and Dragons in space, complete with wizardly old men in robes with beards who guide young idiots with swords so they can be ninjas.
