Can I use Named Pipes between C# forms

Posted 16 January 2016 - 07:12 PM

Hi everyone! I'm on a Software Engineering course and my team proposed to make an Ordering and Billing System for a food chain. The system will have 3 different process to run simultaneously, 1. Ordering Menu for customers, 2. Counter for cashier, 3. Order Queue for the chef. This is my first C# project and I found Named Pipes for IPC. Now my question is:

Can I use named pipes between my c# forms of a single project? I mean will it work when I run 3 instances of one project and log on to the 3 processes? I know this will create 3 process on task manager so I'm just thinking if I can do this. Thanks for the future answers. :)

It could work, but the modern approach is to either use web service backed by a database (if you want to implement the queuing logic yourself), or to use an off-the-shelf queue package like MSMQ, RabbitMQ, etc.
