Ever feel like you're in a dungeon?

Posted 31 January 2016 - 02:43 PM

Lately I have been sitting around a lot. Mainly on the computer. Does anyone else here ever get to the point where just looking at a computer screen makes your brain feel foggy? You have a project or deadline to attend to but just know you can't stand to look at the monitor for one more minute(Even if you want to)? I have been getting this way lately and it's a mix of built up energy and the feeling of being in a cave. I have thought about moving my desk closer to the window to at least feel the breeze of an open window and the sound of human activity around me... maybe just to simulate the sensation of being outside.

Do you guys exercise? Morning jog or go to the gym daily? What keeps you from feeling like a participant in Plato's allegory of the cave?

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

Well, I'm not chained to the wall, that helps a lot.

I suggest you get up and go for a walk. Get a cup of coffee, have a smoke if that's a thing you do. If you start feeling like your head is boxed in, that means you're probably not working at very good productivity, so you might as well take ten to get yourself back. Exercise is a great idea - doesn't have to be a full-bore workout, just stretching for five minutes or doing some push-ups can be enough to restart the synapses.

I couldn't help but relate the two with imagery when I typed this.

I used to be fairly active and do about 4-5 miles a day when I woke up. Felt great in those days, you would think that would be enough encouragement to start doing it again. I know i'll break the lazy loop eventually, just hard with depression and things of that nature.

I just can't stand the dullness of my room. I have tried many things to "Brighten" it up but it's always just.... blah. feel like it's a damn dark, cramped cubicle. A "Man Cave" dungeon I could live with.

I bet you have the gnarliest, manliest man cave in existence. You couldn't possibly know how I feel.

Coffee almost makes it worse. It triggers this neurological feeling I can only describe as a "time perception distortion". With my "ADD" and Panic Disorder combined my doctor said it might be some epileptic/vertigo symptom - I guess there isn't a medical term for it specifically. Makes me feel like my brain is fast forward but everything in reality is moving slow. Sitting still with caffeine in my body sometimes can trigger an episode... specially if I am figgity to begin with.

@jon - per Rihanna - maybe whips and chains excite me?

Then change it? Fancy color changing bulbs, a splash of paint, your favorite WWE wrestlers' posters on the wall next to pin up gals.

I have thought of painting it. Currently its a very depressing egg shell white. I have to ask the landlord if I can. I haven't yet because I was planning on moving, but it looks like I will unfortunately contract with this house for another year. Just bought brighter(Expensive as hell) bulbs for my room about an hour ago that seem to be already helping. The walls in my room are made of plaster(Have an old house) and it's generally difficult to put things up like shelf's an accessories. I do have some posters in my room, but the tape doesn't hold good on my walls. However recently they have been giving me little issues.

Sorry. I have cringe worthy ADHD moments from time to time. I do my best to suppress them.

I don't have a man cave. But I do have a Saint Andrews Cross.

Of course not. Hundreds of thousands of years of humanity, billions of other people alive right this moment, and you are the very first to ever feel the way you do.

Didn't mean to come off in a serious tone. I have a very unappealing sense of humor to most people. Apologize if it came off bad.

A bad habit from other forums where quoting is often necessary.
