Database Design for Bus Timetable

Posted 19 February 2016 - 03:38 PM

I am trying to develop a database design regarding tram timetable information however I am currently having issues. Please can you help how I can do this.

Users should be allowed to choose a start and destination and get appropriate route and timing information, therefore the system should have knowledge of the current time so that in addition to showing trams at a specified time it can give “the next tram to.

There are three lines and 4 routes, however some of the routes go through similar stops.

Tables:

Line LineID LineName

Route RouteID RouteName LineID

Station StationID StationName

Time TramID RouteID StationID Tiime

I need help as I feel that the times time is repeating data as the tramID, RouteID and StationID are repeating as each stations have the same number of trams.

Each route can go to more than one station at a time, I really need help to sort this out as its un-normalised. Please advise?.
