I would bet that the most popular is going to be the stock install, simply because that's the default and most people are just going to go with that. What's the best? That's going to depend on your requirements. The easiest way to answer that question would be to just pick one that looks likely and use it until it annoys you, then try to find something which alleviates that pain without causing any new pain.

A more complex way to answer that question would be to set up a number of different Vagrantfiles, each with a different python install, and rotate through them until you know which one you most prefer. But that would be more work than a sane person would want to do - you want to just get some work done, so pick something and get to work.
