Network discussion download speed issue

Posted 21 April 2016 - 02:38 PM

Network discussion

I am studying something about network, and I think the info that i read may not explain the the situation nowadays. And I hope someone can explain it a bit.

For download a file, lets say 1 KB and 1GB, why the download speed of downloading 1 KB is very low, but 1 GB will reaching the peak of the bandwidth. If it can download the 1 KB at the peak speed, it will be finished quickly. Why not download at the peak at the beginning? What is the reason that slow the speed down or avoid the download speed reach the peak at the beginning? Is that a hardware limitation or technology limitation? (I know using wireless will get lower download speed compare with cable).

Thanks all

By starting with a slower initial speed you'll have fewer dropped bits, that will need to be re-transmitted, than if you started the other way around.
