Objective-C in a virtual machine

Posted 09 August 2016 - 05:35 PM

Hello guys. I want to start learning objective-C but i don't own a mac. I want to know if I can install OSX in a windows computer with virtual box or something related. My laptop has a core i5 and 8 gb of RAM with 1 tB of HDD. Is the virtual machine going to handle objective-C programming? any recommendations are good! thank you guys.

Which legitimate version of OSX do you have on hand?

I don't believe it works that way, but okay.. just searching "OS X El Capitan virtualbox" brings up a load of options and you can see how folks have fiddled with their legitimate copies of OSX and finagled them into a virtual machine. It's not often a forgiving process.

I assume that it won't run as smooth as it is supposed to but I think that'll do until I get a macbook. Thank you!

... or go cross-platform development with Xamarin and Visual Studios.

To be clear, Apple doesn't want their OS on a virtual machine and actively discourages it. Indeed, it's explicitly against the OS X software licence and thus illegal.

Sorry, not a legal option.

It is Apple's draconian licencing in all aspects of its business that has led developers to flee to Android. Even if you have a Mac, the app store system is not developer friendly. The iPhone ecosystem is mostly professionals looking to make money from a client base that clearly has too much discretionary income. Apple loyalists seem to prefer this, anyway.
