Installing mingw and cygwin

Posted 19 September 2016 - 10:57 AM

Hello

I want to install mingw and cygwin in my 64-bit win10 machine.

However, I have the following queries
1) Is mingw(32 bit) suited for my system?
2) If yes, then can I install both Mingw-w64 and mingw on my system?
Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

1. You can run a 32 bit executable on a 64 bit system yes.

2. Yes you can run mingw32 and mingw64 on the same sytem though cygwin would use the 32 bit mingw by default.

If Cygwin uses 32 bit executables on my machine, what are the possible issues that may arise?

Thanks

Why not just install it? I mean it's not going to cause any havok and most likely will run as expected.

These are not programming questions about the C/C++ language, or C/C++ code. Moving to Computer Support -> Software -> Windows

If you're looking for linuxy goodness on your Windows 10 box, and it's up to date, I've been having great fun with Windows Subsystem for Linux.

It's the cygwin I've always wanted because, well, it's Ubuntu! Alternately, for a less painful cygwin, I recommend babun ( http://babun.github.io/ ) as it has the setup you wanted when you first installed cygwin, only already setup.
