@tlhIn`toq、is Xamarin free? I thought it still costs money to make an app?

Xamarin is free. Been free since the Evolve 2016 conference when they announced they were bought by Microsoft. So many months now.

@tlhIn`toq, thanks. When they announced it in the early days, I was sure you had to pay a monthly free to get any version that was decently capable of producing anything of merit. So they have extended it to include everything in the free version now?

When Xamarin was their own company of course they needed a revenue stream, so there was a cost with it. When Microsoft bought them, that all changed. Your Visual Studio license is the level of your Xamarin license.

There are a few things that require a Visual Studio Enterprise edition such as remote iOS simulator... The Xamarin Inspector...But nothing significant to 90% of the devs out there.

Eh... Not so much really. There was about a month of confusion for companies like mine that had corporate Enterprise MSDN subscriptions as well as had paid for Enterprise Xamarin subscriptions and what were we going to get for double paying all that. (Answer, several Xamarin University subscriptions so our people could train).

But otherwise... Its been pretty "all inclusive"; like a cruise.

There is just so much going on in software dev that its impossible to keep up on if you're not already in a particular area. And since you were doing Xamarin, why would you have been slogging through the press releases etc?

The important thing is that it is free, can do some wonderful things, and you should be elbows deep in it right now instead of chatting here. <laugh>

No, I wanted to get into Xamarin as soon as they announced it, but there was a lot of talk about this still costing money and I did not give it another though until you mentioned it here. I am going to take a look at it now though. Cheers.
